There is a big divide between those who make governmental policy “have never spent any time in regional Australia”, says the IPA’s Daniel Wild.

Overhauling Australia’s energy grid is a large task with a “truly enormous” cost, says geologist Michael Asten.
Making the grid rely on clean energy is estimated to cost a whopping $1.3 trillion over the next decade.

Australia’s push to be a republic came from then prime minister Paul Keating’s realisation it was a “wonderful wedge” in the Liberal Party, says host Professor David Flint.
“A number of sillier Liberal MPs – seeing the republican bandwagon – having been told by the media that it was inevitable – all then jumped on the republican bandwagon,” he said.

New polls show the Voice to Parliament will be unlikely to go through, even though Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s “secretive” way of handling the referendum.
“We’re seeing so-called information advertisements which to me look very much like yes case advertisements,” he said.
“I don’t think the Australian people are going to go along with it.”
